Dear sweet sister, first of all I want you to know you’re not alone.
You’ve fallen, and you’ve fallen hard. Maybe you’ve fallen so many times there’s just no hope anymore. You try to pick yourself up but it’s exhausting.
I know you’re tired. I know you’re weary. The days seem long. The nights seem longer. There’s no air and your suffocating. The hole that you’ve gotten yourself in to is too deep. It’s too deep and no matter how hard you try to climb out, you just can’t make your way to the top.
I’m not sure what it is that has caused your fall. Maybe you’ve given way to an addiction. Maybe you’ve said some extremely hurtful words to a friend. You’ve found yourself lying to your spouse. Maybe you yelled at your toddler 5 times yesterday.
And you’re on the verge of giving up.
Can I tell you something?
Don’t give up.
It doesn’t matter how you have fallen. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. It does not define you. And you will prevail. So pick yourself up.
We’ve all been there.
The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again… Proverbs 24:16
No one is immune to failure. Every one has fallen down. So shake it off. You’ll probably fall again. What are you going to do about it? You have two choices. You can stay down, which is exactly where Satan wants you; or you can get up and choose to accept the grace of God.
Jesus is there, holding your hand.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.Psalm 37:23-24
So you fell. Jesus is right there! Not only is He there, He’s holding your hand! No matter what you did, Jesus has not left you. Don’t let shame keep you from thinking that He has left you!
You are forgiven.
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:5
Do you believe the bible? No, I’m being serious. Do you? I’m assuming your answer is yes. So, it’s done then. Gone. Erased. You fell. You repented. Then get up. There’s work to be done my sweet friend.
The Lord is your strength
My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:26
Oh friend- you may fall, and you may be weak…BUT GOD! He is your strength. He is the strength of YOUR HEART. All those little emotions that run amuck and you’re not sure how to weed through, know that HE is the strength of that sweet heart of yours!
Your future is bright.
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
This might just be the best part. That fall? God can use it because his power works best in weakness. Humble yourself before Him, friend. Let Him use you because He desperately wants too. He’s got BIG plans for you.
So get up!
I’ve fallen many times. All of us have. But there was a time.. there was a time I fell hard. I mean hard. Like I was walking along and didn’t even see the big hole in front of me. And I just kept walking and fell right down face first. I fell deep. The hole I fell in to was dark and lonely. I thought there was no way out. I had gone too far and there was no way out.
I had to fight my way up. I made it harder than it needed to be. And Jesus was there the whole time, probably rolling His eyes occasionally saying to me, “Shannon- I’m right here, can’t you see me? Don’t you feel me?” The grace and mercy He has for us I will never be able to fully comprehend.
He loves you so much.
We’re not perfect. Not one of us is. So, we fall.
What if falling was in the plan? I know it’s a stretch. Do you think perhaps that maybe sometimes we fall down because there is something down there that we’re supposed to find?
I’ll leave you with that, and I’d love to hear your thoughts!
