When You Feel It’s Too Late

My friend Lori is passionate about encouraging women and she loves pointing others to Him. She is a guest blogger here today and I’m grateful. I know that you’ll love her just like I do!

Too late?

Too Old?

Too broken?

Too much?

I remember looking at the ladies around me. Beautiful. Joyful. They radiated a life lived with Jesus.

They knew Him so well.

And me?

I felt like I missed something.

And I was just too late to find it.

Do you feel like you are just too late? Too late to turn away or turn back? Too much has been said or done? Can I convince you otherwise? When You Feel It's Too Late - Shannon Geurin - Lori Schumaker

Are you in that place? That place that feels too late?

Too late to put the past behind you and meet Jesus for the first time?

Too late to get your life back on track and embrace Him once again?

Too late to dig in deeply into His Word to pursue a deeper relationship with Him?

Too late to ever find true peace?

If you are, will you give me just 5 minutes to share with you why it’s not true?

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life. Revelation 22:17 NLT

Did you catch that?

Not, “Those who are in their 20s.”

Or even,

“Those with only some sin.”

Rather, He said,

But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find Him if you look for Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV

And again, in this verse there are no time frames and no parameters. Simply seek the Lord with all your heart and soul

and You will find Him.

But there’s also this, it’s not too late – God’s personal Message! – “Come back to me and really mean it! Come fasting and weeping, sorry for your sins!” 13 Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here’s why: God is kind and merciful. He takes a deep breath, puts up with a lot, This most patient God, extravagant in love, always ready to cancel catastrophe.Joel 2:12-13 MSG

It’s not too late. Not ever.

It’s not too late to embrace. To turn back. To dig in.

To find true peace.

Remember when I said I felt just too late to find what I’d missed? That was me a little over 10 years ago. Friends, I had spent over 30 years believing in God. I knew without a doubt He held all of my life in the palm of His hand.

I’d always known He was there watching me. But somehow I’d missed that He was there holding me.

And there’s a big difference between someone that will watch you in your pain and someone that will hold you in your pain.

I didn’t know all that His Word held for me. The details in between all those pages. The freedom that existed there. The power nestled within that Book.

I didn’t even know what most of it meant. The words seemed so confusing.

I felt my heart overflow with this desire to know Him more, but I felt too late. I felt too late to get what I saw those sweet ladies had. I had too much baggage. Too many condemning thoughts in my mind.

But I wanted it.

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.Philippians 3:13-14 NLT

I let go of the lie. I looked to the future and I embraced the truth that it is never too late.

Today I tell you this from this space where I write.

Friends … where I write about Jesus!

Something that woman in her 30s would never have dreamed possible. God has shown me first hand that my too late is His perfect timing. In those beginning days of building a relationship with Him, I turned to resources that would encourage my walk. Those resources are now ones to which I contribute! A full circle. All God.

Sometimes I still must stop listening to the lie of “too late”. God has done much to mold me in these last years, but is it too late to pursue deeper yet the things He has placed on my heart? Or, do I listen to the truth and know that as long as I have breath it is not too late to grow deeper in Him and do the work of the King?

Dearest friends, I hope I did well with these 5 minutes you gave me and I pray you embrace the truth and apply it to your life. The truth that says

You are not too late.

When you feel it's too late.

Dearest Jesus, You are a God of full circles. A God of patience and of unfailing love. Your arms are wide open in invitation for our surrender to step in. Thank You for redeeming our wasted time and our missteps. Thank You for grace when we step away instead toward You. And thank You for taking our offering and with it, creating a beautiful masterpiece. Lord, I ask you to convict each of us with the truth that it is never too late. Train us to put our eyes on You and follow that next step, whatever that may be. Make Your Word come alive to each of us and fill us with Your wisdom and love. Let us live lives that radiate a life lived with You. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

  1. Trudy says:

Thank you for encouraging us that it is never too late, Lori. It really touches my heart how you learned “there’s a big difference between someone that will watch you in your pain and someone that will hold you in your pain.” So very true. May we go on to grow ever deeper in Jesus’ love! Blessings and hugs to you and Shannon!

  2. Beth says:

I relate so much to your words, Lori, not so much in being slow to come to the well of Gods’ word and the deepness of relationship He provides us there, but in fearing that I am too old to move toward the passion He has put on my heart–on my husband’s heart too. But I’m encouraged by your words–the fact that it is never too late with the Lord enabling and empowering us. Thank you for sharing and for introducing me (us) to your lovely friend, Shannon! It’s nice to visit in this new-to-me place. It looks like a great place to visit more than just once! 😉

    • Hi Beth! I am so thankful you heard God’s affirmation that is truly not too late to move toward that passion! I am saying a great big “AMEN” and am excited to hear just how that passion develops because I know that it will be good!

I’m so glad you enjoyed Shannon’s place! She is a treasure and will encourage you immensely!

    • Shannon says:

Beth- I completely identify with you! I’m so encouraged by Lori, though! And yes, thank you for stopping by, grab a cup of coffee and stick around! xoxo

  3. Lori,
I’m so thankful that it’s never too late with God, I can relate. He’s always calling us to MORE in Him, through Him, and because of Him – therefore it is never too late. Thank you for sharing and thank you for inviting me to a new space with Shannon.

    Blessings! Joelle

    • Shannon says:

Hi Joelle- it’s so great to meet you and I’m so glad you stopped by! Thank you for your encouraging words:-)

  4. Dawn says:

Thank you, Lori, for sharing this encouragement. It’s never too late. I know that in my head, but sometimes my heart needs a reminder- and this was a beautiful, timely one.

  5. Valerie says:

Lori, what a beautifully written post! I love how you said that you knew God was watching you before but not that he was holding you. I think that is such a great point of recognition because that’s when we truly understand how much God loves us. He loves us so much that it’s never too late–and just like you said it was the perfect timing. Lori, I’m also loving your images!

Shannon, thank you for your lovely space! It’s a place I want to come back to because there’s so much to read. And I love your images too!

    • Thanks, sweet Valerie! It seems so small a detail, but it changes everything when we grasp that He is right there holding us. Not far off watching us. I think I’m finally finding what truly feels right in images! Thanks for noticing!!!

  6. Beautiful, Lori! I’m so thankful that He’s the God of second chances. 🙂

  7. Jaime Wiebel says:

Such great words of hope ad encouragement. I have thought this so many times. Like I am too late to get started working for Christ. If I had not wasted my youth on selfishness and worldly pursuits. Those things have formed me to where Christ needed and is able to use me today. All the heartache, shame, and disgrace have taught me to fully embrace Christ for who is and find my identity in Him, alone. Thanks for sharing, friend!

  8. Carlie says:

This is such sweet encouragement; thank you, Lori. Isn’t it amazing that with God, everyday is a new day… a new beginning… a new chance to embrace Him? Thanks for the wonderful reminder that it’s never too late to embark on a deeper relationship with our heavenly father.
